Saval Blitz

The club has received thanks via email from a number of the teams that participated in last Saturday's Blitz Words that were used included well organised, much appreciated, enjoyed, excellent, brilliant job, first class etc.It is good to get praise from other clubs and it shows that here in Saval that we can do things well. It goes with out saying that events such as the Blitz it is not just one person but a small band of people who give up their time to help out. On this occasion it was Geraldine Bennett, Susan Fearon and Phyliss Lennon who once again looked after the hospitality, the referees John McCarthy and Eamon McCarthy, all the ladies from the team that made the sandwiches, tray bakes and lastly the young members of the club who looked after the teams with refreshments which included the fruit trays throughout the day.On behalf of the G4MO footballers I would like thank all those who came out and showed their support. which was much appreciated.

Training continues on Thursday 6-45pm to 8-00pm.

Too Young For Pilates!!!

Then Gaelic4Mothers & Others is for you.

Gaelic4Mothers & Others is a recreational and non-competitive form of Ladies Football. Anyone woman over 18 who is not currently playing Adult competitive football with a club is eligible to play. Despite the name, women do not have to be a mother to participate. G4MO is not all about football, it is very much social as well and we have a team of ladies who enjoy “their time” away to training and games.

One of the key elements of Gaelic4Mothers & Others is the community support network that it creates for women and the positive physical and mental impact that it has on the day to day lives of participants.

So why not join us, we train every Thursday 6-45pm to 8-00pm. Really it is 7-00pm by the time the catch up time is finished.

Come and Support Us
On Saturday 20th July the Saval Annual Invitational Blitz takes place, with teams from across Ulster participating. On show will be all the good things the mums' game has to offer. Footballers actually kicking the ball, no blanket defence, no cycnial fouling and plenty of fun.
Play starts 12-30pm.

This time away to Glenelly in west Tyrone.
The well contested game was played in glorious sunshine albeit far too hot.
Nevertheless it was a great game of football between two evenly matched sides.
Saval best player on the day was tenacious halfback Moira McEvoy whose reading of the game was excellent.
The ladies would like to thank Glenelly for the game and of course the hospitality afterwards.
Also a word thanks goes to the young referee who controlled the game superbly.

SAVAL G4 MUMS – against the odds!!!

Report by Imelda Fearon

There was a great turn out; the annual mourne walk which took place on Binnian on Saturday 18th May. In misty overcast conditions the team battled on reaching the summit in record time. Andrea and Maura pushed the group to maintain a fast pace, Clare fell in behind but due to diversions when taking photographs for the family album fell off to the back of the group.

Mary and Paula were quite active in their efforts to keep the frostbite at bay, they did star jumps and a few Zumba steps to keep the blood flowing. Talking of fancy footwork, Air Mountain rescue were almost called when Rosie did a bit of Michael Flattely on the decent. Bravely she agreed to continue, a real hero, though you get a sense it’s going to dominate the discussion at the weekly training for weeks to come.

Bernie came well prepared, flask, lunch-box, energy food, she too pushed the pace, keen to get a cup of tea and her feet up at the top. What disappointment, shivering with both excitement and the cold, as she poured her hot water there was a distinct shuffle of silver fragment of glass, Bernie’s facial expression said it all, and her comment can’t be recorded. Quite simply the flask was broke.

At the peak maps were spread, Aisling studied her compass; Fearghal and Anthony scratched their heads and talked about how they used to do it in the good old days with the boy scouts and said “sure go on there’s only two foot visibility, but we are bound to find our way down” Now that’s health and safety at its best. Imelda had the distinct advantage of keeping the record for reporting purposes, so needed to keep her “wits” about her.

The journey down remained fast, the rain was closing in and the hair do’s long forgotten. It was warm fires, X factor, drink and never climbing another mountain that dominated discussion for those that could still talk.

The group all arrived safely back at the car park, Anthony happy in the knowledge that his players were now capable of anything, he’s just hoping that all the other G4 MUMS, teams don’t get wind of his training regime, we could be suspended on grounds of madness. Another achievement and the craic was good, the muscle pains now gone and thoughts of the next team challenge, sure that’s what G4 MUMS is all about.

Saturday 25th May - Challenge Game Drumragh Sarsfields v Saval
The ladies left Saval last Saturday morning to travel to County Tyrone side Drumragh Sarsfields. Both teams served up a hour’s football that had all the good things that the mums game has to offer; fun, skill, fantastic scores, great defending, craic and fiendship. The ladies would like to thank Drumragh Sarsfields for the game and the hospitality afterwards in their excellent facilities which was much appreciated. Saval and Ballingarry win photo competition

31 Oct 2012

Thanks to all those that entered our Gaelic4Mothers & Others National Blitz day Photo Competition. We received some fantastic entries but there can only be one winner, or in this case two winners and they are Saval and Ballingarry. Saval’s ‘Injured Full Forward’ Gráinne could not take part in the competition but acted as the team’s mascot and as the photo shows she really gave it her all. Ballingarry’s photo of ‘Mums Bums’ really speaks for itself.

Saval Mums' Team at the Blitz

Saturday was the highlight of the Gaelic4Mothers and Others football calendar when 1000 plus mums and others desended on the Naomh Mearnog GAA Club Portmarnock for the annual National Blitz Day.

Saval's group
contained An Charraig Mhor (Tyrone),Clonakilty (Cork), Fethard (Tipperary), St Finnians (Dublin) and Clann Eireann (Armagh). .Our team played well in each of the 5 games with some exceptional individual performances.
Saval team: Aisling Crawley, Mary Crozier, Clare Cull, Una Downey, Sheelagh Duggan, Imelda Fearon, Theresa Fearon, Cecilia Kerr, Phyllis Lennon, Andrea Magee, Moira McEvoy, Bernie McParland, Jenny O'Hagan and Rosaleen Travers

After the Blitz the team made their way to the Carrickdale Hotel where tables were reserved. After the meal Imelda presented manager Anthony with an anniversary cake with Simple the Best along with team photo emblazed on it .Imelda also presented every player with a memento of the occasion. Then it was back to the club for the after party to finish off what was a perfect day.

This year we had a new player with us who goes by the name of Grainne. She is the brain child of Imelda and her features reflects that of some of our players. I will let you match them up!!! Grainne stayed out all night last Saturday. She was last seen propping up the bar in Saval Club at the after party. We are not sure where she ended up. If found please return.

Loads to thank for the day; Ladies GAA for a well organised Blitz, Host Club Naomh Mearnog GAA Club for the use of their excellent facilities, Carrickdale Hotel for the hospitality. MD Coaches and driver Eugene for the transport, our club Saval for their continued support and last but not least Imelda Fearon for the personal touches that made day that more special.

Saval Gaelic4Mothers & Others Football Update

Davina Marks Memorial Blitz - Newry Mitchels - Saturday 15th September 2012

For the third weekend running the SG4M continued their good form, with an excellent performance in our neighbours Blitz. The team played games against Tir na nOg Randalstown, Bredagh, Mitchels and Clann Eireann Lurgan. All 4 games showed the best in G4M football with some fantastic play and comradery at the end.                                                  .

One of our players, Clare Cull, went out on loan to the Clann Eireann Club for 2 games and played a stormer. Unfortunately Clann Eireann could not make it a permanent move due the player's high wage demands. Our ladies thoroughly enjoyed the day's football and can look forward to their big day away at the National Blitz in October. We thank hosts Mitchels for a great Blitz and of course the hospitality afterwards.                                          .

Match Report
Tir Na nOg (Randalstown County Antrim) v Saval - Saturday 17th May 2012. The ladies had their first outing of the new season with a fantastic performance away to Tir na nOg. The game flowed end to end with some super scores from both teams, it was only in the last quarter that Saval began to dominate. The performance was built on our defence of Una Downey, Andrea Magee and Maura McEvoy who were just great. Aisling Crawley and Theresa Fearon were exceptional in the midfield area.In the forwards, Imelda Fearon weighed in with crucial scores.Imelda was ablely assisted by Clare Cull who set up a number of scores and was unlucky not to be on the scoreboard herself but for some excellent saves from the home keeper..Cecilia Kerr who was making her Saval debut in the forward line showed a lot of promise.

All the hard work the ladies have put in preseason is now paying dividends as the ladies fitness levels are very good. Oh by the way training continues every Thursday at 6-30pm, new ladies are welcome to attend.
