St Colmans V Downpatrick
St Colman’s travelled to Liatriom for the second Sunday running for the U21 All County B Final against Downpatrick. Niall Madine opened the scoring with points in the 9th and 15th minutes. A stunning goal from Downpatrick ensured that St Colmans were not going to get an easy ride. Downpatrick were looking strong scoring further points, but these scores inspired a positive reaction from St Colmans. Points from Niall Madine frees followed. A fantastic move down the left hand side resulted in a Gunner Quinn goal which left the half time score St Colmans 1-5, Downpatrick 1-2.
The second half was a scrappy and tight affair with both defences dominating the game. After 10 minutes Brendan Turley scored a point, shortly followed by a Rowan Turley point. In the 13th minute of the second half, Downpatrick finally ended a long period without scoring with a free. With two minutes into injury time, Downpatrick fisted the ball into the net to leave a nervous but exciting finish for the spectators. St Colmans championed 1-8, 2-4.
A good all round team performance, with an exceptional performance from Niall Madine.
Saval GAC would like to congratulate and thank managers Fergal McConville and Darren Quinn for their hard work and commitment in the U21 tournament. Thanks to physio Niamh Canavan and kit men Seamus and Ned.
