Saval Festival Fever

posted Apr 19, 2011, 1:51 AM by Saval Gac

Thursday 28th April – Sunday 1st May 2011

Preparations are well under way for this year’s Saval May Day Festival which will run from Thursday 28th April until Sunday 1st May following the successful inaugural Festival last year. This year sees an extra night added with the Teenage Disco in the Marquee kicking off proceedings on the Thursday night. The disco will run from 9pm to 12pm with all over 13s invited to join DJ General Base. The disco will be well supervised so no call for parents to worry!

Friday night sees the much anticipated ‘Battle of the Townlands’ which is a talent competition that sees some of Saval’s Townlands go head to head to see which will come out on top. A variety of acts including Novelty Acts, Music, Song and Dance will be on display from Corcreechy/Carnacally, Sheeptown, Shinn, Derrylecka, Savalmore, Crohill/Crobane and Glenvale (which officially isn’t a townland) and it is with much delight we will also welcome our neighbours Drumgath, Ballyholland and Glenn who are also showcasing their talent in the competition. The audience will decide the winners on the night (one ticket – one vote) with dancing to Disco Solutions following the announcement of the winners.

Saturday sees the busiest day of the weekend with the Family Fun Day from 1pm until 4pm. All families are welcome to join us with bouncy castles, face painting and games galore on the field with music and plenty of fun for all ages. There will also be an individual Darts competition in the lounge which starts at 12.30pm. On Saturday night, there will be a Texas Hold ‘Em competition with big prizes for the winners. Registration starts at 7.30pm with an 8pm sharp start.

After the clean up from all of Saturday’s ongoings, Sunday night brings the much anticipated ‘The Chevys’. They were the outstanding act from last year and return this year for more live entertainment. The Chevys will be preceeded by local band ‘Fireside Craic’ who will warm up the crowd. All music kicks off from 8pm.

So throw in a few burgers and chips and a bit of sun (hopefully) along with the Senior Men’s game against Clonduff on Thursday night and the Senior Ladies, also against Clonduff on Saturday night and it really is an action-packed weekend for all the family. Everyone is welcome to join us for the craic, the music and the food. If you would like any information on the weekend, contact Cormac (07759152280) or visit the club website www.savalgac.net or Facebook page - Saval Maydayfestival.
