Saval v Mayobridge

 Venue: Pairc Esler

Local rivals Saval and Mayobridge met in the championship on Friday past for a coveted Semi-Final spot. The game saw Saval staging a late comeback in the closing moments of the game, which saw Subsititue Fergal McConville scoring an inspirational goal in the 50th minute. Despite this late comeback, the ‘Bridge’s’ dominance earlier in the match proved the difference in the final scores.

Mayobridge made the best of starts displaying some excellent forward play. By Half time the Blues led 0-10 to 0-03 with Saval score’s coming from Niall Madine (2) and Stephen Kearney. With 43 minutes gone the ‘Bridge’ were leading 0-12 to 0-06 and looked on course for a Semi – Final spot. However in the 50th minute substitute Ferghal McConville scored a goal to put Saval back in contention. In the closing stages Saval staged a comeback which left both set of supporters tense in the final few minutes, with Niall Madine and subs Philip Madine and Jarlath McCarthy all scoring points. Despite this late comeback the ‘Bridge’ were able to hold on for the coveted Semi – Final spot.

If the Saval started the game the way they fought in the closing stages this could have been a much closer contest. It might have been enough to get one over the ‘Bridge’.
