The Under 8s fielded two strong teams at the Go Games blitz in Mayobridge on Saturday 26th May. It was a great opportunity for the boys and girls to put into practice the skills developed over many hours of training. The format ensured that all the kids had plenty of game time and the standard of football matched the glorious sunny weather.

The older side performed brilliantly in their 3 matches. In the first game against Mayobridge the team played some great free flowing football and adapted well to the strong breeze. In the second tie, Rostrevor were quickly dispatched with a fantastic display of forward play and scoring. Clann na Banna provided a very tough challenge in the final game. After going well behind in the early stages, the lads produced a spirited comeback showing great courage and teamwork. The performances were hugely encouraging especially so early in the year .

The younger Saval team also gave a fantastic display, especially given the strong breeze they had to contend with throughout their 3 games. Although sometimes facing older (and wiser) opposition they didn't let their heads drop and battled hard to set up some great scores. The standard of the core skills on display was excellent and the parents present couldn't fail to be impressed by the effort and commitment from the kids. With the majority of the team just 6/7 year olds the future is most certainly bright.

Although all the players were exceptional , one player deserves a special mention. The rules in the Go Games tournaments don't allow defenders to leave their own segment of the pitch. This didn't stop the outstanding full back Aidan Havern who in addition to his incredible tackling and workrate somehow managed to score a "wonderpoint" from his own half.
