We were completely blessed with the weather all weekend for Saval Festival this year, and this was helped by the Trojan work by so many people over the whole weekend to make it a success. A big thank you is extended to everyone who not only helped in anyway but also to everyone who attended the weekend.
Thursday night’s teenage disco was enjoyed by lots of locals which was a great way to kick off the festival. Friday night’s ‘Battle of the Townlands’ was a massive success with the audience enjoying entertainment from characters such as Cilla Black and Christy Cooney and acts from ‘Jeremy Kyle’ to ‘Oaklahoma’ and everything in between. Sure where else would you see Marty Madine dressed up as ‘Big-Chief-sitting-at-the-bar-talking-Bull’, Mark Gordon and the Fearons as Lady Gaga and Davy Hughes as Beyonce (again!)? Glenvale/Savalbeg were crowned winners of the night with Lynsey Cunningham head-over-heels with the result, while Christine McCarthy was left broken. The weather was spectacular on Saturday with families enjoying the family fun day; Dessie Gallagher (Mayobridge) won the Darts competition in the lounge while Paul Greenan was top Poker player from the large crowd who attended on Saturday night. Sunday night was again the main crowd-puller with the marquee packed to capacity dancing away to Fireside Folk (not Fireside Craic as we advertised –Dodo!) and The Chevys.
None of this would have been possible without the brilliant work of all our volunteers, it was a long weekend but it was all worth it! SavFest 2011 was better than 2010 and we want 2012 to be even better! As a way of thanking all those who helped out over the weekend, we invite all those who volunteered or took part in ‘Battle of the Townlands’ to the lounge this Saturday night from 8pm (a buffet will be served).Don’t forget to tag any photos you have of the weekend onto the festival Facebook page Saval Maydayfestival.
